cd any_directory tar xzf your_path_to/KaTeker_RELEASE_xxx.tgz
This will create the directory KaTeker_RELEASE_xxx in any_directory . Read README and index.html.
If you are using a file manger like KDE Konqueror open then folder
(directory) KaTeker_RELEASE_jjjj_mm_dd .
Start KaTeker

cd KaTeker_RELEASE_xxx su -c ./install_kateker

It is necessary that the user running KaTeker have write access to the directory /var/lock/ . It can be necessary to put the user into a group that has sufficient rights.
Before recording CDR(W): Could you create CDR(W) on your system? If not, read Recording CDR(W).
If you do not need the integrated help run
su -c ./install_kateker -help
This saves about 12 Mbyte.
/usr/local/bin/backup_system -h /usr/local/bin/tkateker
backup_system or backup_system.pl is the command line interface, tkateker or tkateker.pl the graphical interface.
There can be problems to access the X-server when running root. In most cases a terminal started by an user and changing to root by su will not work because of access to the X-server. If can start any X-program ( xterm ) there will be no problem.
There are tree solutions:
on KDE use:
kdesu xterm
use ssh:
ssh -X -l root
localhost xterm
use xhost: run as normal user ( not root )
xhost
+localhost
su
xterm -display localhost:0.0
The documentation of KaTeker can be viewed by a browser at file:///usr/local/KaTeker/Doc/index.html.
You should include /usr/local/bin into your path. Then you can start tkateker and backup_system without the path.
Finally you should create an entry for tkateker in the start menu of your window manager. There are some icons included:
