The left list 'Defined backup sets' shows the backup sets defined. Click an entry to select the backup set. The selected backup set is shown in the label 'Selected set'.
The center list shows the files and directories (archives) of the selected backup set. Click an entry to select it. The selected entry is shown in the label above the right list. Double click an entry to open a change dialog starting at the selected directory.
The right list shows the excluded files in the selected directory.
A backup set is a set of files and directories. There are backup sets predefined when tkateker is started the first time. Define a new backup set typing the name of the set into the entry at the upper left of the dialog and clicking the <Define new backup set> button.
The screen shot below shows the backup set HFK which is the personal save of hfk's home directory split into a lot of archives. It is the generated backup set show on the previous page. There are some entries of the original backup set removed but they are still ignored. That is those directories will not be saved. For instance the subdirectories .thumbnails, CDROMS, tmp and Save are ignored at all.
Select a backup set by clicking onto its name in the left list of defined backup sets. It will be shown at the middle top of the main frame. In the center of the window is the list of selected files and directories. Use the <Change> button to change the backup set. The "Change backup sets dialog" is a graphical view of the backup set and offers not only include but also remove change operations.
The following buttons will not be used in most cases
An entry can be deleted by the <Remove> button: select the entries to remove in the list and click the <Remove> button. The entries will still be in the list of the excludes.
You can exclude files or directories from a any directory in the backup set explicitly. Select the directory you want to exclude from by selecting an entry in the list of selected files and directories. Then click the <Exclude> button. This directory will be displayed in the entry on the right side of the list of excluded files just below the hint 'Excluded files in directory'. If there are some files or directories excluded from that directory it will be listed in the list. Entries can added or deleted in the exclude list using the associated <Enter> and <Delete> buttons.
It can be necessary to split directories in a backup set into chunks of smaller size. This is because for each entry of a backup set there will be created a tar or dar archive holding the contents of the entry. These archives can be very large. Then it is better to split those archives into smaller chunks. Splitting a directory is simply select the directory to split in the list and the click the <Spilt> button. The dialog is described at the page "Split dialog". Please note that the subdirectories in the list of selected directories are not split automatically. The <Split all> button splits all directories in the directory list. This nay be useful if the contents of the directories saved changed. No existing archive will be removed from the backup set automatically.
Entries can be excluded from its parent directory manually by the <Exclude> button.
Other arrangements can be constructed using "Change backup sets dialog" via the <Change> button.
It is possible to save directories twice:
if a subdirectory of a directory is entered into a backup set and it is not excluded in the directory
if a directory is included into two backup sets
Save your changes with the <Save configuration> button.
