This is an example of the initial CD recorder dialog.
There is a list of CD devices found on your system. Please note that is a list of CD devices not only CDR(W) recorder devices and you have to select the CDR(W) recorder. If you got only one CD device it will set too.
If you got no CDR(W) recorder click the <Use no CDR recorder device> button. The CD device can be selected in the "Setup->CD" dialog.
For the selected CDR(W) recorder you can change the speed or the type from CDRW to CDR. Simply click onto the buttons and choose a value.
The recording speed is the maximum speed the CD recorder can use. The recorder will choose a speed depending on its properties and the properties of the media. The maximum speed should be set to a value that ensures that a CD is created even if there is some system load too. Therefore don't use to high values. Higher values are only recommended when the recorder supports concepts like 'burn-free'.
Finally click the <Set CDR recorder device> button. There will be a final question. Then the taps "Setup->CDR" and "Setup->CDRW" will be enabled. The following page shows the result.
The settings are not saved into the configuration. They are still temporary. The settings are temporary until the main <Save configuration> button is clicked. The <Save configuration> button is red when there are temporary settings.
One word about the recording speed. The higher the recording speed the higher the likelihood that errors occur. The default value of 12 yields best results and creates a CD in about 5 minutes. On a production system KaTeker will run automatically by night and the time creating a CD does no matter.
The recorders are detected using cdrecord. The devices detected are looked up in /etc/fstab. If the device is not in the fstab a mount point cannot be assigned automatically.
Some CDR(W) recorder or cdrecord controlling it react very slow when checking its state. This can take up to one minute. Please be patient while checking. A hint comes up while waiting.
