A backup set is a set of files and directories. There are backup sets generated automatically when tkateker is started the first time. This is described at Splitting backup sets.
This screen shot shows the initially generated contents of a the backup set of the user hfk. There is only one backup set named HFK. This backup set contains a lot of directories and files included. The are listed in the list at the center. For each of those entries there will be generated an archive. Some of the archives would be to large. Then there are subarchives. For instance the archive home/hfk/CDROMS there are some subarchives like home/hfk/CDROMS/Java.
For each member of the backup set there is a list of directories or files excluded. These are listed in the right list. The entries are all those which are entries in the backup set too. The subdirectory .kde of home/hfk is the entry home/hfk/.kde . The subdirectories tmp and Save of home/hfk are excluded at all.
The generated backup set consists of archives with a size smaller than the size of a CD. In most cases there size is less than 100MB. Archives with this size will be read fast when restoring data. When saving the archives onto CDR(W) they will be distributed onto several CDR(W). If there are many small files the CDR(W) will be filled very well.
This generated backup set is often not that what is wanted. For instance the directory home/hfk/.thumbnails should not be saved. Simply remove the entry: select the entry to remove in the list and click the <Remove> button. The entry will still be in the list of the excludes.
In most cases the <Include> button should be used to change the backup set. The "Define backup sets dialog" is a graphical view of the backup set and offers not only include but also remove change operations.
The next page shows the result and describes how backup sets can be adapted.
