KaTeker uses cdrecord to record CDR(W). Because of system security the access rights to the recorder device is restricted on many Systems.
You can use the solution of cdrecord to give all user access
to use cdrecord:
read the man page of cdrecord and search for "To
give all user access to use cdrecord".
It is also possible to use sudo to execute cdrecord as root
user. This is supported by KaTeker.
The page Access
rights to CD recorder describes this.
There are problems with cdrecord. If KaTeker cannot detect a CDR(W) device, have a look at Need some help.
CDR(W) recorders on notebooks are able to eject CDs but not to move it in. Unfortunately it is necessary to close the CDR slide manually when cdrecord opened it in order to reinitialize the CDR(W) recorder. Therefore data cannot be saved onto CDR(W) automatically via cron job.
There has been a report that moving a CDR (W) recorder off a high speed IDE controller (Promise) and back to the motherboard's lower speed IDE controllers has fixed a random IDE bus reset problem.
Some CDR(W) recorder or cdrecord controlling it react very slow when checking its state. This can take up to one minute. Please be patient while checking. A hint comes up while waiting.
